A Pleasant Day in Boothbay

Updated: Jun 17, 2023

As the end of summer draws near, my husband and I seized the chance to explore the enchanting Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens situated on the picturesque Boothbay peninsula. Our adventure also led us to the charming coastal town of Boothbay Harbor, where we savored a delightful lunch.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is a beautiful oasis in Mid-Coast Maine. There is so much to do at the gardens from strolling through the beautiful flower gardens to hiking through miles of waterfront and woodland trails. There's a lot of walking involved, so don't forget to bring comfortable footwear.

Viewing the gardens is a COVID-friendly activity – masks are required indoors and in places where social distancing is difficult. Make sure you order your tickets in advance to reserve an arrival time slot because they do not allow walk-ins during this time. The Gardens are open 9 am - 5 pm daily through April 15 - October 31.

Boothbay Harbor

Boothbay Harbor is full of quaint shops, restaurants, and places to stay. A footbridge connects the east and west sides of the Harbor, allowing visitors easy access to both sides. We plan to come back another time for a boat tour or a kayak trip around the harbor after seeing plenty of daily boat excursions to choose from.

Shannon's Unshelled

For lunch, I ordered a lobster roll and an order of onion rings from Shannon's Unshelled, a seaside lobster shack with picnic table seating. I was very impressed to see not one, but TWO lobster tails in my roll and a pretty edible orchid making it picture-perfect.
