Explore the farms, flavors, and festivities that make this a can't-miss Maine weekend.

What is Maine Blueberry Weekend and When is It?

Every summer, Maine Wild Blueberry Weekend celebrates the state's most iconic fruit: the wild blueberry. For two full days during the first weekend in August, farms, bakeries, breweries, wineries, and more open their doors for tours, tastings, live music, and blueberry-themed goodies.

It’s a great time to hit the road, support local businesses, and enjoy a true taste of summer in Maine!

Where to Celebrate Maine's Wild Blueberry Weekend?

Maine's Wild Blueberry Weekend is a statewide celebration, with more than 15 participating farms and over 40 businesses including breweries, wineries, restaurants, and markets, all showcasing the wild blueberry in creative and delicious ways.

Events typically take place across Downeast, Midcoast, Central, and Southern Maine, so there's something sweet no matter where you are.

Celebrating Wild Blueberry Weekend at Fields Fields

This year, I spent Maine's Wild Blueberry Weekend at Fields Fields in Dresden, about an hour from Portland. I chose this spot because it was one of the closest farms offering a full-on experience—not just selling blueberries.

The event included a delicious pancake breakfast, a lineup of local vendors selling blueberry-themed crafts and treats, and a guided tour of the farm’s wild blueberry fields. It was the perfect mix of food, shopping, and learning more about Maine’s famous berries.

Start the Day with Blueberry Pancakes

The pancake breakfast alone was worth showing up right at the 9am start. Each fluffy flapjack was loaded with fresh blueberries and topped with an optional pat of butter. Real maple syrup was self-serve from a pump, so you could drizzle on as much (or as little) as you liked.

All that for $5 per pancake was definitely worth it!

Sweet & Sippable Blueberry Treats

There were plenty of other blueberry goodies worth trying. One standout was the hot blueberry crisp topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream—simple, warm, and delicious. I also tried the blueberry leaf tea from the Fields Fields food truck, made using the leaves of the blueberry plant.

Fun fact: the leaves actually contain three times more antioxidants than the berries themselves!

Holy Donut and another local food truck were also on-site, adding even more tasty options to the mix.

Blueberry Finds and Handmade Treasures

Along the length of the field, a variety of craft and food vendors were set up, offering everything from blueberry jams and salsas to ceramics, clothing, and jewelry. I ended up buying a pair of clay blueberry earrings which were too cute to pass up. I was also seriously tempted by an adorable blueberry turtle (maybe next time!).

Into the Fields: Farm Tour and Pick Your Own

Starting at 10 am, Fields Fields offered a farm tour where visitors could learn about the history of the farm and how wild blueberries are harvested. If you wanted to try picking your own, you could head into the fields with a pint container and make a $1 donation.

Just a heads-up—it’s trickier than it looks! These tiny berries grow low to the ground, so filling a pint takes some time (and a bit of patience).

What to Make with Your Blueberries: Blueberry Bark

Once you get home with your fresh-picked blueberries, one of the easiest (and most delicious) treats to whip up is blueberry bark. This simple no-bake recipe combines melted chocolate with fresh or frozen berries for a snack that’s both pretty and satisfying.

Just spread your blueberries out on a parchment-lined baking sheet, then pour melted chocolate over the top. I used dark chocolate as the base and drizzled white chocolate on top for contrast (and a little extra sweetness).

Pop it in the fridge until it firms up, then break it into pieces. It’s the perfect way to stretch the blueberry love beyond the weekend!

In conclusion

If you’re looking for a fun, hands-on way to experience Maine’s blueberry season, Fields Fields is a great place to do it. Hope to see you at next year’s Wild Blueberry Weekend!
