Sure, everyone knows about Portland Head Light. It's one of the most photographed landmarks in Maine for a reason. But if you're looking for Instagram-worthy spots beyond the obvious, you've come to the right place.

As a local, these are the places I find myself returning to again and again. Whether it's sunset along the Western Promenade, a walk around Back Cove, or watching the boats from the Eastern Promenade, these spots capture the everyday beauty of Portland. If you want photos that showcase the city like a local sees it, here are my five favorite places to bring a camera.

Eastern Promenade

For one of the best views in Portland, head to the Eastern Promenade. The hilltop park overlooks Casco Bay and is especially beautiful in the summer when the harbor is filled with sailboats.

Western Promenade

Golden hour doesn't get much better than the Western Promenade. Between the colorful sunsets and low-flying planes, it's a favorite local viewpoint.
