Capture the Colors: The Best Spots for Maine Fall Photography

There’s nothing quite like fall in New England. The vibrant foliage, crisp air, and cozy seasonal traditions make it the perfect backdrop for photos. If you’re looking to capture that autumn magic, here are some of my favorite spots to snap your next Instagram worthy shot.

Hinckley Park, South Portland

Right off bustling Highland Avenue, Hinckley Park is a hidden gem for fall photography. Winding trails, wooded areas, and tranquil ponds offer a variety of scenic backdrops, all brought to life by vibrant autumn foliage. The way the trees’ colors reflect in the water is truly picture-perfect!

Jordan Farm, Cape Elizabeth

Jordan Farm is a charming little spot that captures the essence of fall in Maine. While it may not be the biggest farm in the area, it has everything you need for a cozy autumn outing: a welcoming farm stand with seasonal produce, a small but cheerful pumpkin field perfect for picking out your jack-o’-lantern, and festive fall decorations that make for fun photo opportunities.

The bright orange pumpkins against the backdrop of colorful foliage give it that quintessential New England autumn feel. It’s a simple, local stop that makes you appreciate the season all the more.

Saco Heath Preserve, Saco

Saco Heath Preserve is a unique and enchanting spot for fall photography. In autumn, the muted greens of the heath are contrasted by golden grasses and pops of colorful foliage, creating striking, otherworldly scenes. Whether you’re photographing the textures of the moss and plants or the winding boardwalk that cuts through the preserve, Saco Heath offers a tranquil backdrop for capturing the beauty of Maine’s fall.

Pleasant Hill Preserve, Scarborough

Pleasant Hill Preserve is a peaceful escape for nature lovers and photographers alike. The preserve features scenic walking trails, gently rolling hills, and dense woodlands that come alive with brilliant fall foliage.

Whether you’re capturing sweeping landscapes or colorful leaves along the trails, Pleasant Hill Preserve offers a calm, picturesque backdrop that’s quintessential New England in the fall. I particularly love the rustic barn framed by the autumn colors. It makes for a perfect photo spot!

Wallingford Farm, Kennebunk

For an iconic fall photo, Wallingford Farm is hard to beat. Rows of vibrant pumpkins stretch out in front of a historic farmhouse, radiating classic New England charm. The combination of rich autumn colors, orderly pumpkin rows, and rustic architecture creates a picture-perfect scene for both wide landscape shots and cozy close-ups (and it’s a great spot to pick up your own jack-o-lantern too!)
