I have seen multiple Instagram pictures of bagels and pink pastel counters before finally trying out Rose Foods for myself. The interior is minimalistic, bright, and clean making it one of the most photogenic cafes in Portland.
Mostly known for their bagels and lox, Rose serves more items on the menu like latkes, salads, granola and yogurt, and of course coffee.
Bagels
Let’s talk about their famous bagels. I ordered a poppy bagel smeared with herb cream cheese and topped with dill and capers. This resulted in a beautiful-looking bagel bursting with fresh herb flavors. Compared to the tough and crispy texture of wood-fired bagels, Rose's have a slightly crunchy exterior and a light doughy inside making them easier to eat.
Spreads and Toppings
There are a variety of bagel types, spreads, and add-ons for you to customize your own as I did. However, If you aren’t feeling that creative spark in the morning the menu includes sandwich options with predetermined toppings. All of these options sound good but there is something about making your own bagel creation that feels so satisfying.
